Road Commissions
Represented classifications include Equipment Operators, Mechanics, and a variety of other specialized job classifications within the division. These employees keep our county roads clean and safe.
It is our responsibility to conduct wage and benefit surveys of all of Michigan’s road commissions and to monitor the wages and benefits of the State’s Department of Transportation. Such Information is used in negotiations with these employers.
- We conduct internal financial audits and surveys of the employer’s equipment to evaluate whether or not the equipment is properly classified.
- We monitor all legislation both locally and in Lansing having an impact on road commission funding.
Privatization remains the most critical threat to road commission jobs today. We have been successful in preventing the loss of these jobs to the private sector.
